Hello everyone! I haven’t updated this blog in a while, but now here I am – writing about something I’ve been working on this quarantine.
I have always been inspired with body transformation stories, starting from watching The Biggest Loser, to stories from The Fat Kid Inside. I never thought I would need to go through one, I thought I was generally healthy and fit. I go to the gym regularly, I can still do 10k fun runs, do yoga, among other exercises. I’ve done a lot of diet methods like intermittent fasting, cutting carbs, eating one meal a day, etc. With all of these things combined, I thought I really was doing well.
Fast forward to my 30th birthday. It was an amazing celebration- a lot of laughter and fun, catching up with friends, and love all around. Then I looked at the photos after, and realized, I really have changed, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
Recently, I shared some tips on how to stay healthy, fit and fab for the year. One of my tips was to change up your routine every once in a while. I usually do boxing, then run in between if I get too tired from all the sparring. Even when I do mix it up, running gets a little boring when you run alone and on familiar tracks.
Enter Color Manila Run, a spectacle of colors promoting fun and fitness at the same time. I was there on their very first run, and honestly, it didn’t really feel like a workout because everyone was having fun from getting color bombed! This time around, I’m joining the Blacklight version, a change from the morning marathons I was used to.
Color Manila is encouraging everyone to sign up for a one of a kind running experience—one that combines fitness with new and exciting sights, opportunities to bond with family and friends, while still getting all the benefits of exercise.
These days, it’s always crowded at the gym. After all, we are still at the first half of the year, where most people are fulfilling their new year’s resolutions of losing those holiday pounds, those Balik Alindog posts, and other fitness related goals. This is a good thing, but a lot of the trainers I’ve spoken to always tell me that the numbers dwindle come summer.
I think a lot of us want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and as with other things, we have a lot of excuses when we don’t fulfill these things. But fear not, I’m writing to share my know how, after years of struggling, on how to be fit and fab the whole year, and the years after that. This is also what I follow, to keep my fitness goals in check.
The first thing I always tell anyone is, just start. Pick a workout or activity you’re comfortable with, and you can build a routine from there. Most start out by jogging around the neighborhood, playing a sport with friends, or joining a community dance class.
By experience, I find working out to be more fun when you’re with more people, so I always recommend joining classes. It doesn’t have to be at the expensive gym, there are lots of free classes around the metro. Ask around in your office, they might have a fitness program you can join for free, or go to a nearby park, and you might chance upon a regular group doing zumba, tai chi, or aerobics in the mornings.
2. Set Realistic Goals and Track Your Progress
Now that you’ve gotten over that first hurdle, you can start setting goals depending on your own pace. You can start by setting a main goal, say, you have to lose 30 pounds by the end of the year. Then break it down, because honestly, if you focus too much on the main goal, you might get disappointed with missteps here and there. Instead, your smaller goals could be to lose 5 pounds in every quarter of the year. Or you can also set your main goal as, to be able to do a half marathon at the end of the year, then your smaller goals can be to do a 5k on the first 2 months, 10k on the next three, and so on and so forth.
I always emphasize that goals should be realistic, and personalized. Your friend might be used to losing 10 pounds a month, but your performance depends on your body, and how well it responds to your activities. What may work for someone else, may not work for you, so you can tweak your small goals as you go.
Think of your fitness journey as a full marathon, you can only get to the finish line, with proper training, patience, determination, and effort, no shortcuts. You pace may be slow, but sooner than you expect, you’ve already crossed the finish line.
3. Find your Inspiration and Prioritize Fitness
Recently, I caught an episode of Margot vs Lily as an ad when I was watching the NBA Slamdunk Contest with my brother (Aaron Gordon’s dunk was amazing btw). Anyhoo, Margot vs Lily is a #BetterForIt mini series created by Nike, to encourage everyone to be active, and #BeBetterForIt.
I’ve watched all the episodes online, you can watch them at the Nike website or over at Youtube. The total is actually 8 episodes, but they’re revealing just one each week. The last two episodes just came out this April!!! The sisters are funny, and whole premise of the miniseries is simple and relatable. Basically the sisters make a bet, and the series revolves around the two of them struggling to win over each other.
Now back to my tip. This time around, I’m going to have Margot and Lily as my fitspirations. Margot is the one just starting on her journey, while Lily is the overachiever in that department. I just find them so adorbs! haha.
You can always pick your favorite celebrity, or even your family members and friends as inspiration. Whatever works. Then after that, always prioritize fitness. Set a schedule, so you don’t have any excuses to bail. This way it’ll be easier to reach your goals.
(Clockwise from top left: Yoga, Anti-Gravity Yoga, Crossfit Mad Minute, Dancing, Crossfit, HIIT at F45)
4. Mix It Up
One of the reasons why people aren’t able to keep their fitness resolutions is, they get tired of doing the same routine. Mixing up your routine will be key to finishing what you started,
According to the American Council on Exercise (ACE): Research has shown that adding variety to an exercise program can improve adherence. Exercise scientists at the University of Florida observed that individuals who modified their workouts every two weeks over an eight-week period appeared to enjoy their workouts more and were more inclined to stick with their exercise programs when compared to individuals who followed the same workout regimens week after week.
Shaking things up also helps overcome those dreaded plateaus. With a different activity, a different muscle group is activated, somore fat is burned while more muscle is utilized.
What I do is, I set boxing as my regular thing, doing it twice to thrice a week, then alternating it with either running, or yoga. When I want more of a challenge, I do HIIT (high intensity interval training) or crossfit, and sometimes do a bit of running as well.
Now if you’re more of a DIY kind of girl, and don’t want to spend on gym memberships, you can always try fitness apps. One of my favorits is NTC or Nike Training Club, which I used to abuse back in college.
As you can see, I haven’t used the app in a while, and was soo surprised with the changes. You can still browse by workout, but this time around, they can suggest a whole month’s program, editable of course, depending on your goal.
5. Eat Healthy and Drink Plenty of Water.
I don’t believe in dieting, but I do believe in portioning and eating a well balanced diet.
Say if you used to eat 2 cups of rice for every meal, you could cut it to one cup, or replace it with a healthier option like brown rice. Stock up on whole grains and nuts, for snacks, as well as lots of fruit. Just avoid those that have very high sugar content.
For fluids, never ever forget to drink plenty of water. Your body won’t function well without proper hydration, so if you wan’t your body to work well, hydrate!
You can also check out different combinations of pre- and post workout snacks and see what works best for you. There are a looooot of infographics online with helpful suggestions.
6. Have Fun, Rest and Reward Yourself
The reason why I like boxing so much is because the trainers are always so funny, or I’m just lucky with the ones that coach me. I also bring my friends to box with me, so we can laugh it off when we see each other struggling. Haha.
Also, remember that doing anything in excess is bad, so learn to take a breather once in a while. Your body needs rest to recuperate and build more muscle.
Lastly, don’t forget to reward yourself, be it in the form of a cheat meal, a new dress you’re eyeing, etc. Just remember, don’t overindulge. HAHAHA
For me though, I just buy cute new workout gear!
I dunno, I just get more excited to work out when I have new workout clothes, even better if they’re in fun colors!
So what do you think about my tips? Do you guys have any more to add? Let me know at the comments section below!!

Hidden inside the intimidating Sparta compound along Pioneer Street, is the newest concept cafe that takes coffee and cycling very seriously. Inspired by Western cycling cafes, Andy Leuterio, top triathlon coach and coffee aficionado, decided to created a space where he can marry his two great passions, cycling and coffee.
Named after his son Max, Andy and his wife Sheryll created Maximus Athlete’s Shop Cafe, a cycling concept store and cafe all rolled into one. On one side is the bike shop, carrying products for cycling and running, as well as training technology, and athlete nutrition. The other side is a cafe carrying great tasting coffee and equally good pairings.
The exterior of Maximus is very simple, having only this lit up signage outside the imposing cemented wall. Inside though, is a well lit, spacious 280 foot square, decorated by Sheryll. The result is a heavily industrial warehouse inspired shop, with personal trinkets here and there, as well as cute decorations to soften the space up.
Bikes, Retail Goods and other Services
The shop carries a lot of well loved cycling brands like Specialized, top of the line brand Lynskey (considered as the Rolls-Royce of bikes), Newton Running,
Oakley, Garmin, Suunto, Polar, and Brooks, among others. I even spotted GoPros and GoPro accessories among the display. For athlete nutrition, they also carry Enervon Carb Gel, Gu, Nuun, Bonk Breaker and E-Gel.
What sets Maximus a step above other cycling stores is that each bike has its own pedestal and with ambient lighting to match, allowing shoppers a lot of room to examine each one. They also got rid of the conventional cramped bike displays and went for a roomy easy-on-the-eyes design.
Maximus has a VIP lounge at the mezzanine level, a full-service bike spa, and a bike fitting studio. The bike spa looks like a handyman’s workshop, where they do repairs, attachments of accessories and other customizations.
The bike fitting studio also showcases Coach Andy’s various trophies and awards. Coach Andy is a Level 2 Certified Body Geometry Fit Specialist, making sure that each bike is tailor fit to your body, improving power, endurance, and comfort during rides.
At Maximus, they take their coffee seriously, using precise techniques and only the finest ingredients available. Currently, they offer signature single origin blends. I am no coffee expert, but as I understand, single origin means that the beans are taken from a single location, be it a farm or country. Believe it or not different landscapes with different elevations or conditions give coffee beans a distinct flavor profile.
Maximus currently gets their coffee supplies from YKW Handcrafted Coffee Roasters and Bean and Barley. EDSA Beverage Design Group (EDSA BDG), the one behind YKW, was actually Maximus’s first partner is learning the art of preparing great coffee. The baristas, together with Andy took courses and were trained at EDSA BDG. They have just started sourcing from Bean and Barley, and their new beans are from them.
On our visit, they had these coffee beans:
Ethiopia Sidamo Hunkute: fruity and citrusy
Spartacus Costa Rica and Brazil (house blend): dark chocolate and roasted almond flavor
Guatemala Huehuetenango: distinctive and delicate fruity, with a fairly light body
Burundi Rurira: light citrus and cinnamon
Honduras Francisco Morazan: peach and cacao
Philippine Lipa Tipakan: local barako coffee
For their single origin brews, they do slow drip and pour over methods to make coffee. As I mentioned before, they were trained by the EDSA BDG team. They offer basic cold brew, and are planning to offer cold brew mixes, aeropress, and coffee cocktails in the future.
Pictured here is the pour over Chemex method, using the Ethiopia coffee beans.
The result is a light bodied fruity coffee. Surprisingly not as acidic as I expected. Note that, again, I’m not a big fan of coffee, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it had that distinct citrus flavor.
We also got to try the Cappuccino, and with a simple heart latte art to go with it too!
If you’re looking for something different, you can get the Dark Matter Strawberry Blast. The taste is like a light strawberry milkshake, with a hint of coffee. It’s very refreshing, especially since summer is here.
For food, Maximus has pasta, sandwiches, pastries and cakes.
The sandwiches are actually their highlighted food product, because it is the closest they could offer to the panini that cyclists actually eat.
The Aligue Pasta is very good, with the crab fat adding only the right amount of grease and savory flavor, and the lemon balancing out everything with acidity. They also have other pastas like Puttanesca, Marinara, etc.
For sandwiches, we got to try both the Chorizo, and Spanish Sardine. They both have feta, mozzarella, cream cheese, and veggies like tomato onions and lettuce. Personally I liked the chorizo better.
For the cakes, we tried Blueberry Cheesecake, Red Velvet, and Moist Chocolate Cake. I loved the Blueberry Cheesecake, because the cream cheese wasn’t lost in the heavy cream. The cakes all go really well with their coffee, so cake coffee pairings here are just perfect.
So there, overall it was a great experience. The pricing here is much cheaper than usual coffee shops, so you get more bang for your buck. I love the interiors here because aside from the great lighting (hello flatlays!), it’s a great marriage of industrial elements and shabby chic cute ones.

Who here has “getting in shape”, “losing those extra pounds”, “project sexy 2016”, or anything similar on their list of new year’s resolutions? I know I do. I’ve already started my fitness journey this 2016 by working out at least thrice a week. Joining group exercises, my favorite workout boxing, HIIT, and sometimes running in between.
The thing about working out a lot though, is it drains you. After a long day at work, where my energy is already low as it is, then working out, I get dead tired when I get home. Getting to Project Sexy 2016, is no easy task.
I always say the best way to a healthier you is a great workout routine, and a well balanced diet. Meals should be in proper, adequate portions, packed with essential nutrients, and eaten at the right time. No to skipping meals! If you guys have been following me on Instagram, I recently posted about my new Sunday habit, boxing. I stopped boxing for about a year when the rates at gym close to my office became too expensive to maintain. Anyhow, after months of no solid fitness routine, I’m back!!
To fuel my motivation, I even bought myself a new fitness wardrobe. Teehee. I don’t mind spending on sportswear because they are investments made to withstand wear and tear. Recently, I found myself investing on sports bras, because there really is a difference when you get the right one with the right fit and support.
I’ve gone to the gym quite a few times realizing my bra is either too low, doesn’t have enough support, or not snug enough for dancing or other cardio activities. Instead of enjoying the workout, I end up worrying if there’s anything showing, there are a lot of guys at the gym after all.
This Christmas season, Triumph released their new sports bra collection, specially made for women with active lifestyles. I always bought my sports bras from the sportswear brands, and I’m glad Triumph made one, because it is a brand that truly understands the female physiology, having been in the business since 1886.
Triumph came up with pieces that go under either low, medium or high impact support, depending on which activities a woman is involved in. What’s even better is that they got Amy Ahomiro, college volleyball superstar, as their brand ambassador. I’ve been a fan of hers ever since their underdog season last UAAP Season 76, where the Lady Eagles beat all the odds to win the championship. I swear, she’s so amazing on court, and really humble too.
Just a few weeks ago, I got to try out firsthand how the new Triumph high impact sports bra was so comfy, snug, and provided support at a Body Combat class with Amy Ahomiro. Read more to find out what went down that day. 🙂
First up, Amy Ahomiro came out to greet everyone wonderful afternoon, sharing her experience with the Triumph sports bras. Amy says, “I use the high intensity Triumph Sports Bra because the training sessions are really intense. I really feel the support. It’s like one of those things – you can’t really do what you want to do if you’re not supported well. It helps me take care of myself, my performance, and that’s really important. We’re always jumping, rolling, diving… just always moving, and when we fall, we have to pop back up. So it’s important that I get the support I need so I don’t have to think about anything more. It just supports me and helps me do what I’m supposed to do. This one gives me the support and confidence that I need to play well.”
Just like Amy, whichever activity you engage in, be it low impact activities or are just as passionate about intense contact sports, choosing the right sports bra for your body plays an important role in the quality of our physical activity.
Now let’s learn about the different sports bras Triumph currently offers:
TRIUMPH SPORTS BRA COLLECTION
Low Impact Sports Bras
The Low Impact Sports Bras come in two razorback styles. One is designed with a flattering low cut front and a thicker razorback, and, the other one has a higher neckline for additional support and coverage, with a thinner razorback for a balanced feel.
These two bras were made for comfortable low impact activities such as Yoga, basic floor exercises and Pilates.
Medium Impact Sports Bra
If you enjoy medium impact sports like jogging, cycling, cross training, and body combat, then this is the bra for you. Add some flair to your sports outfit with the striped design of this sports bra. It has a higher front to ensure that you don’t need to worry about readjusting yourself. A thicker mesh razorback is in place as well to make sure that your back receives adequate support to help improve posture.
High Impact Sports Bra
This bra is made for freedom of movement and is ideal for high impact ball sports such as volleyball, football, basketball, including other activities such as step aerobics, and Zumba.
The High Impact Sports Bra, too, comes in bright stylish pops of colors such as red, cyan, teal and the ever classic black, and is made with very breathable material while remaining functional and stylish enough to wear alone. It has a high front and the thickest straps to provide maximum support on its own so you can exercise without worrying about underwear malfunctions.
At the event, we were assisted by the good people from Triumph with sizing. This is the same as what they do in the stores, to ensure that each piece is worn with the most comfort and maximum function.
I haven’t done Body Combat in a while, and even when the class was just half of the normal 45 minute class, it was already so intense!
There was a lot of air-kicking, air-punching, squats, jumps and whole lot of other activities in that short period.
See? I already look tired halfway through. :))
i’m happy to report that Triumph truly delivered. My High Impact sports bra stayed put the whole session! I may sound like a saleslady already or something, but honestly, I was pleasantly surprised with it.
The garter part didn’t leave a mark, the bra had enough support, and most importantly, no pain even after all that jumping.
Many thanks to these three instructors for encouraging us to do our best even when we were panting.
Of course, to end this post, a photo of me and Amy, who did the whole class with us! She jumped the highest at the jump squats guys, She’s so awesome.

If there’s one thing about us millenials that consistent, it’s how each one of us wants to go out and explore new horizons, opportunities and experiences. Millenials strive for that work-life balance, being really hardworking on a 9-5 job, then spending leave credits and holidays by being whisked away to the beach, a weekend hike up a mountain, going on road trips, volunteering for worthy causes, among other endeavors. It’s safe to say millenials are more active, inspiring other generations to do the same.
With this lifestyle, we constantly update our social media platforms, and upgrade our gadgets just to keep up. More often than not, we get frustrated about our gadgets not giving us the performance we expect to get from them. Other than that, we also tend to pick gadgets which are multipurpose, it has to at least take good photos, be able to play great audio and video, with water resistance, shockproof features a very helpful add on.
Once you get through all that, you finally pick a decent gadget, but now comes the next obstacle, picking the accessories. While travelling, especially on road trips, I find these two things, really important: speakers and headphones. While they aren’t essential, they really do bring another dimension to every experience. Like say, you’re at a beach, the serene view is very calming, but come nighttime, you’d love to have a bonfire, complete with smores, and funny stories about friends, then to make it even more fun, you bring out your speakers, plug it to a party playlist on Spotify, and suddenly you’ve started an impromptu dance party. Then you and your friends have way too much fun and end up splashing in the water, inevitably hitting your speakers, wouldn’t it be perfect if your speakers were water proof for that?
Enter the Harman group of companies (JBL®, AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, Lexicon®, Mark Levinson®, and Revel®), where their newest products from
JBL® have better sound quality, functionality, and applications. As the leader in revolutionary sound, JBL continues to push audio boundaries through innovation and personalized sound technology. This year, JBL elevates every user’s experiences with immersive audio to make life even more epic!
Now, there are a lot of tech brands offering speakers and sound systems, so what sets JBL apart from everybody else?
These three features are the exact reasons why:
1. BIG SOUND
Sound quality is the #1 consideration in portable speaker purchase, and with JBL, speakers have really great audio even in small enclosed spaces.
WATER RESISTANCE: One of the most important value added future for use case extension, like what I said before, there’s nothing like a ruined gadget on a beach trip to dampen your mood
3. WIRELESS DAISY CHAIN
MULTIPLE CONNECTIONS: Capability to wirelessly connect multiple speakers together that enhance your music experience. I was soo amzaed at how a speaker can connect to other speakers, or how you can use multiple speakers with same device, and vice versa
Currently, JBL has these amazing products in the market:

This Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, the Global Mala Project, the largest unified worldwide yoga event, will occur. This is in line with the United Nation’s Day of Peace and the Fall Equinox and will be held at WhiteSpace Manila.
Dedicated to promote peace and positive change through yoga, as well as raise social consciousness and funds for noteworthy causes, The Global Mala Project is Teresa Hererra’s annual heart project. Seeking to create a “mala around the earth,” (In traditional yoga, a mala is a set of beads, used to focus awareness during meditation) she was inspired by her yoga mentor and the Global Mala Project’s founder Shiva Rea, to bring the event to our shores.
As a model, environmentalist, and yoga teacher, Teresa shares the vision of her mentor in creating a positive energy through yoga that would pulsate around the world. In the recent months, she has been working closely with event producers and yoga centers around Manila to ensure the success of this event. All of the event collaborators are doing the work completely pro-bono, to ensure that 100 % of its proceeds go to charity. This year’s event will benefit Children’s International.
I love yoga, sure, it entails a lot of practice, patience, and a lot of focus, but it does calm the mind. The Global Mala Project is a great way to refocus on life with yoga, as well as help out with Children’s International, the event’s beneficiary.
“Yoga is a union of body and mind. When you practice yoga, you put yourself in a state of openness and grace. From this place, mindfulness stems and we make conscious decisions for ourselves and for our world around us,” she emphatically shares.
While the beads of the mala allow an individual to focus during meditation, it is the hope of the organizers of the Global Mala Project to create a chain of connection and compassion among those who will be a part of it. “There is no pre-requisite to begin this practice. Just an open mind and an open heart. Hope to see you on the mat,” is Teresa’s message to the class attendees.
To give everyone a preview of the main event on Sept. 26, we were invited to a private Vinyasa Yoga class at A Space Manila. It was lead by Beyond Yoga instructor, Nikki Torres, and it was both a challenging and relaxing yoga session.
I haven’t done yoga in a long while. I think the last time I did it was when I did Anti-Gravity Yoga (AGY), also at Beyond Yoga. Then again, yoga has a lot of different styles, and as you can see at the end of this entry, the schedule of The Global mala Project Manila shows you how multi-faceted yoga actually is.
I really really really tried my best during the yoga class, choosing the more difficult version of poses rather than the easier alternative. I haven’t done it in a while, so it was the perfect time to push myself.
The class ended with a meditation session led by Francois Flaviano, which was sooooo soothing I almost fell asleep on my Manduka yoga mat.
Then I just had to have some snaps with my loves Chessika and Ruth, after than body lengthening and posture improving yoga session.
We also got to enjoy detox coco water from Tropicana, where they infused coco water with lemon, cucumber and lime. It was very refreshing after the intense sweating.
If you guys are free, do go to The Global mala Project this Saturday, come clear your head while doing a workout, and helping children in need all in one project. Each ticket is for sale at Php 750, but it’s already a full day pass, and you get to pick whatever classes you’d like to go to.

Let’s face it, we all gained a little weight because of the holidays. I haven’t even been on a weighing scale for months, but judging on how my jeans seem to be tighter these days, I’m guessing I gained a few pounds.
Before you go ahead and beat yourself up over gaining those extra pounds, stop yourself. It’s okay! You had fun in the holidays, you enjoyed your time spent with the people you love over good food and drinks. My December has been filled with Christmas parties week after week, and in every one, I have over indulged myself, getting caught up in the merriment. Also, when I had my SG vacation, my family overstuffed ourselves with really good food!
Now it’s time to get back in shape!
Over the years, I’ve devised my own method to lose the holiday weight. In this post, I’m sharing tips and steps, all of which are effective for me.
The first step is to simply start, go out, walk around, climb the stairs, anything! Think about Dory’s, “Just keep moving”, and start by doing stuff around your home. Be it dancing around while cleaning, or breaking a sweat by playing with your siblings or younger cousins.
If you already have a preferred sport or activity, just pick up where you left off! It only takes one tiny step to your fitness goal. Exercising is difficult, so start out with activities you like to do, then progress to the more complex ones when you get comfortable.
For me, I find working out a great stress buster. Studies show that an active lifestyle gives you more endorphins, which explains why a lot of my fitness buff friends are addicted to the gym! Before December, i found myself addicted to boxing, going 3 times a week even, because I love the feeling of accomplishment after a good workout.
2. Find inspiration, plan workouts and set realistic goals.
My current fitspiration is Filipino-German personal trainer to Madonna, Nicole Winhoffer (photo below). She’s currently the face of adidas for Stella McCartney’s newest line, and I can’t stop raving about her fab figure! I like how her figure looks very reachable, and how gorge she looks in the adidas campaign.
For your goals, you can set one main goal (say for three months), and set weekly goals to get to that main one. Losing about 1-2 pounds per week is usually my weekly goal, losing more is a plus!
My main goal is either to fit into an old pair of jeans, or fit into a smaller size, or lose a certain number of pounds. Whatever your main goal is, make it specific so you have a solid idea of what you want to achieve.
Make sure to write your goals and plans down, it makes it more official, and will push you more.
Create a schedule of your workouts or activities, and always track your progress. Knowing that you are getting closer to your goal will push you even harder to go that extra mile.
My schedule usually consists of alternating between running, boxing and the Spartacus workout. I read about the Spartacus workout on Women’s health magazine, which is a circuit training set done for about 30 minutes. I usually do Spartacus 2-3 times per week then alternate boxing or running between those dates. you can search the Spartacus workout online, it has versions for both men and women. It’s also good to alternate between high and low intensity workouts, so you don’t get fatigues easily and get to improve endurance.
Don’t forget to be patient. There will be times when you feel like your efforts aren’t doing you any good. But really, it may just be that your body is adjusting to your new routine.
3. Rest and change it up once in a while.
If your body tells you it’s tired, rest. Resting will give your body time to recuperate and build more muscle in the process. Say you’ve got your workout schedule, put in about 2 rest days per week. Driving your body too hard will only slow down your progress.
If doing the same workouts doesn’t sit well with you, change it up once in a while. Say increase the number of repetitions for your workout, or do the activities faster. You can also try a new workout for a change of scenery.
For me, I’m thinking of doing yoga again this year, like what Nicole Winhoffer is doing in the photo. Maybe do anti-gravity too, because I really love it, if only the prices weren’t so steep.
4. Drinks lots of water and eat properly.
Keep eating! Don’t skip meals! Skipping will only hurt your body and deprive yourself of the nutrients it needs.
A great tip is to reduce your regular portions by 1/3 (one third). Or gradually decrease the size of your meals, to ease your body into getting used to smaller but healthier portions.
If you get hungry fast, you can try eating more often but in smaller portions throughout the day to keep your metabolism going.
Don’t forget to take in vegetables aside from the protein, and get them from good sources like lean meat, whole grains, and fresh produce. Protein helps your body build muscle, while the fiber helps detoxify your system.
Drink lots of water! Sometimes when you feel hungry, you might actually just be thirsty. Hydrating also keeps you fuller for longer. Drink water before eating to decrease your food intake.
Always bring a water bottle to the gym or wherever you workout because hydrating will keep you refreshed, thus making you feel better about sweating more.
5. Motivate and reward yourself.
My motivation usually comes from thinking about an upcoming beach trip, or getting new workout gear. Whatever it is, find your motivation, because that will keep you going.
Speaking of workout gear, always remember to wear proper ones.
I usually wear colorful stuff to the gym, to get my mood up.
Sturdy, reliable, and appropriate footwear is also a must, since you will be using these often. Depending on your workouts, you should get the corresponding shoes for that.
If you’re going jogging or running, it’s good to invest in running shoes that have heavily padded soles, just ask the friendly sales people in sports stores. For dancing, boxing, or other sports, invest in good cross training shoes like the one I have above. I always pick my shoes with bright colors, because, that’s a very me thing to do. haha.
Reward yourself once in a while for your efforts, even if the change is small. When I reached a fitness goal last year, I really wanted to get myself these adidas Tubular runners (photo above). I specifically wanted that maroon one, but they got sold out immediately after release! Boo.
The hype over the collection is because of its unique outsole design, inspired by inner tire tubes, which features dual-density EVA for unbeatable comfort. Partnered with stabilizing plates, the Tubular supports the wearer with a firm stance, whilst sacrifices nothing in the way of aesthetic. A sock-fit neoprene upper continues the contemporary street look and features printed overlays that provide additional support. It is said to rival Nike’s Rosheruns, which I also like, by the way.
Other stuff I’m eyeing to expand my gym closet are these things:
adidas Originals WMNS Mountains Clash Capsule collection jacket and training bottoms – I just love the abstract color combinations of cliffs and different scapes.
anything from the adidas x Pharrell Williams tennis and polka dot packs – Equality is something I feel strongly about, and having that message in really good looking sportswear just makes me want to buy everything from this collaboration!!!
“Equality is love visualized. It is a symbol of affection, the action of affection. Equality is everything from a greeting to a declaration of true love. In all its forms. It is ACCEPTANCE. It is LOVE. It is STRENGTH.” -Pharrell Williams, November 2014
What do you think about my tips? Let me know if they work on you, and more points I can also add.
One embarrassing fact about me: I do not know how to jump rope. Back when I was a kid, I was a prim and proper shy one who didn’t get to play around. I’m trying to learn though, as boxing coaches in Elorde tease me when they see that I struggle when asked to do sets of jumping rope. I would rather jog, than pick up the jump rope. Anyway I shared that because that was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the campaign photo below for adidas Stella McCartney FW 2014. The model looks so serene, perfect even, with that jump rope.
“This season I was inspired by the elements of nature and sense of freedom and individuality that it allows. All-over statement prints are complemented by an earth-based palette of autumnal tones and wintery hues, while a play on structure and sleek lines is tempered by voluminous outer layers and cover-ups. I’m also really proud to continue to offer a collection that incorporates sustainable elements wherever possible,” says Stella McCartney.
This season’s Run Range is influenced by the exhilarating freedom and adventure of trail running. Performance Longsleeves, ¾ Tights, Shorts and Nylon Tees in all-over wood grain prints are enhanced by an enveloping autumnal palette of deep reds, forest greens and earthy browns reminiscent of woodland terrain.
Techfit base layers featuring strong colourblocking deliver support and added dynamism, while Performance Jackets and Hoodies enhance feminine silhouettes with structured layering to complete the look. As temperatures start to fall, revolutionary new ClimaHeat® technology in Performance Midlayers and Winter Tights offers exceptional insulation for runners who love the great outdoors through the use of hollow fibres that trap warm air and maintain body heat. Designed for ultimate endurance, additional ClimaChill®, ClimaCool® and ClimaLite® functionality throughout the range ensures superior comfort and temperature regulation for maximum performance.
Suggestive of nature’s reflective and harmonious balance, the Yoga range introduces a new visual and performance-focused aesthetic based on complimentary contrasts. Ultra-feminine, seamless dip-dye base layers in Poppy Pink and Natural Grey sit alongside Loose-fit Sweatshirts and Woven Pants in Clementine and Platinum Mauve for ultimate maneuverability and comfort, as organic, neutral tones are accentuated by vivid splashes of colour.
The highlight of the range is a Woven All-In-One cover-up with batwing sleeves, tailor-fit cuffs and ruched waist detailing available in Rose Tan and Natural Grey, which presents the perfect outer layer for use before or after sessions. To complement style options within the Yoga range, this season’s Studio selection features Performance Longtights and 7/8 Tees specially designed for winter, with Mesh Hoodies and Quilted Jackets adding a Stella edge.
Low Waste Hoodies and Pants in soft pinks and heather greys layer effortlessly with the Low Waste Pull-on and Shorts in Pop Purple and Sharp Grey, as adidas by Stella McCartney introduces additional high-sustainability pieces to the line. Presenting the perfect performance/style option for those mindful of their carbon footprint, Organic Cotton and Recycled Yarn pieces in each range complete this season’s sustainable offering.
FW14 sees the introduction of the first ever adidas by Stella McCartney adiZero XT Trail Run shoe, specifically designed for trail running. Revolutionary RAXION™ outsole technology delivers superior and surefooted grip, while the lightweight outer with protective toe enables runners to take on challenging terrain with speed and agility. Available in three eye-catching colourways – Cargo, Red Zest and Woodgrain print – the adiZero XT Trail Run shoe is the perfect option for this season’s winter trail runs. Run Backpacks and Bumbags in dark, subtle shades are perfect for storing essential items when on the go, while Run Beanies and Gloves in Base Brown and Ginger blend with outfits perfectly to keep runners cozy and warm.
Alongside the new adidas by Stella McCartney adiZero XT Trail shoe, the Run range extends its adidas by Stella McCartney Boost shoe offering. Featuring intelligent rubber zoning for grip and weight reduction – as well as stretch to mimic natural skin movement – new Pure Boost and Boost II shoes ensure unparalleled energy return in training, with thousands of capsules contained within the shoe, storing and unleashing energy with every step. New Pure Boost tooling enables runners to get back to their roots with uninhibited contact between foam and foot for ultimate comfort, while Boost II features an extended Torsion® system for stability and four-way mesh upper that complements the aesthetic of the main collection.
The innovative inner boot construction means it can be rolled down for a laid-back look, or worn up for maximum protection against the elements. Backpacks in Sharp and Natural Grey sit alongside ribbed woollen neck warmers, balaclavas, hats and gloves to complete the look.
Seeing a really beautiful collection like this one makes you think that Stella McCartney just might be encouraging everyone to get outdoors and move, all the while looking good too. I really wanted an AdiZero Diorite Textile pair from the previous Stella collection but stores here ran out of my size. I might try my luck again with this collection. We’ll see.
