I’m an avid fan of sunscreen, and I always always make it a point to
apply some before going out. Especially this summer, when the weather is scorching hot, sunscreen is a must.
But that wasn’t always the case. I used to dislike putting on sunscreen when I was younger because the available products back then had sticky, very white, and thick
formulas that made it feel really uncomfortable. I only used them at the beach, because the formula just didn’t look and feel like it would blend well with any of my daily makeup or skincare products.
Fast forward to a few years later, when there were more studies on the effects of daily UV exposure (even indoors!) that I finally gave in and applied sunscreen as often as I could. It still took me a few more years until I got used to applying it on my skin, because I finally found one product I could stick to.
It was a while back when my mom hoarded Biore products at a sale during a trip to Malaysia. We started with the Biore UV milk as both a base and sun protection product, and eventually tried other stuff from the brand. We’ve been hooked ever since.
I loved the UV milk, it was lightweight for everyday use, and had a powdery finish, making the sunscreen almost undetectable because it had little to no white cast. Now, they’ve developed a new product, the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel that’s really undetectable!
The Bioré UV Watery Gel’s secret is the gel’s “aqua micro capsules” which gives the gel a light, non-sticky, and easy absorption that leaves your skin cool after applying. I tested it out during a walking tour with the Biore team around Manila, and true enough, it felt so light, you wouldn’t notice you’ve applied anything at all.
Here’s a roundup of what I love about the Biore UV Watery Gel:
SPF 50+ and PA++++
easy to spread gel formula
leaves a cooling and hydrating effect
invisible, weightless finish
good for both face and body
great value for money, 90mL for just Php 460
Here’s a photo of me caught in the act of reapplying sunscreen. Teehee. Reapplying is such a dream because even if you put another layer, it doesn’t get heavier and stays invisible.
Snapped a photo of it inside Ava’s backpack too because the blue popped with the pink <3
We also got to try other Biore products while at it.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence (Php 420 for 50g)
Biore UV Perfect Spray (Php 299 for 50g) – another favorite because it dries as a powder, very affordable and convenient to apply because it can even go over makeup with caking. It’s currently exclusive to Watsons and SM Beauty and available until June! Hoard while you can!
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel (Php 460 for 90mL)
The Bioré UV Watery Gel and the rest of the Bioré line are available online at BeautyMNL.com. For physical stores, Biore is available at select Watsons, PCX, Landmark, Metro Dept Stores, Cash & Carry Supermarket or check Biore Philippines at Facebook and Instagram (@bioreph) for more details.
Now some snaps from our Manila walking tour!
I went to Fort Santiago when I was in elementary for a school field trip, and I haven’t been there since then. It’s nice to see that this very important historical site is being restored and preserved to this day. Fort Santiago is a citadel constructed during the Spanish colonization period and is most known for being our national hero Jose Rizal’s last prison before his execution in Bagumbayan.
I vaguely remember these brass footprints back when I was a kid. The tour guide shared that this was the route Jose Rizal walked on to his execution.
There’s also the Rizal Shrine museum inside the fort, where Rizal’s memorabilias are kept.
Above: Jose Rizal’s business cards for his eye clinic in Hong Kong.
If Rizal had Instagram, this would be his selfie feed.
San Agustin Church
Ending this post with a view of the Pasig River, taken by my blogger friend Ruthilicious. You can also check out our walking tour posts that day, just search for the hashtag #EverydaywithBioreUV on social media.
Hope you enjoyed my post for today! Let me know if you’ve tried Biore as well.
It’s a pain to be girl in this day and age when everyone puts a premium on image and beauty. Girls have to be immaculate, pretty, and even hair-free to conform to society’s expectations. I don’t think too much about these pressures, but I do feel empowered when I look good and feel great. I don’t mind spending on a pampering session or two, whenever I need it, be it for relaxation or a simple boost of confidence.
It isn’t a secret that for a girl, I have hair growth that’s a above average, or in local terms, I am deemed balbon.
I am not a newcomer when it comes to hair removal procedures, be it waxing, threading or laser. I regularly have my brows waxed or threaded, my armpits IPL lasered, and sometimes even my bikini line is waxed or when I’m going to beach trips, I also get a Brazilian. And yes, all of then are painful. It is in these moments that I think it’s such a pain to be a girl.
Thankfully, a lot of people have recommended Strip: Ministry of Waxing to be one of the best, if not the best when it comes to hair removal. Most of the blog reviews I read even claim that waxing here is pain free. This time around, I’m trying the new limited edition Mulled Wine Wax, available until March 2017.
STRIP: MINISTRY OF WAXING
Strip has been around since 2002, being a global franchise, it’s available in 9 cities worldwide. Strip is proud with its HSQ mantra: Hygiene, Speed
and Quality. Plus, they were the first hair removal salon to introduce the ‘No Double Dipping’
commandment. They even have Hygiene Packs containing disposal waxing
equipment conveniently sealed into individual pouches for each
customer. So everyone is ensured that the tools and materials used are clean.
I even found a wall full of testimonials at their Serendra branch, showing how popular their hair removal treatments are.
Strip is also popular for their secret-recipe lotions
and wax formulations. In particular, the STRIP & M+G Ingrown Hair
Cream (created in collaboration with New York cult skincare brand
Malin+Goetz) wards off nasty ingrown hairs, while the STRIP Ice Cream is a soothing post-wax and IPL cream.
As I said earlier, I’ll be trying the Mulled Wine Wax. It’s still the same well loved formula from Strip, only the Mulled Wine Wax is infused with the
and festive scent of red wine, orange, cloves, and cinnamon. Because of its scent and nourishing properties, the Mulled Wine Wax is perfect
for Brazilian or Boy-zilian first timers!
This session being my first time at Strip, I thought getting the Mulled Wine Wax for my Brazilian waxing treatment was apt.
The private waxing / IPL rooms each have a locker to stow away every clients precious possessions, a spa bed, pillows, and even a fully decorated wall to share more info about Strip and its advocacies.
I wasn’t able to take a photo, but as I also mentioned earlier, each customer gets one Hygiene pack of disposable tools to be used for the procedure. In my case, my hygiene pack contained disposable spatulas, wipes, cotton swabs, etc.
Every Brazilian waxing session starts with disinfecting tools and surfaces. Then the Strip cleanser is used on the body part where wax is to be placed.
Now off to waxing! What’s unique about Strip’s hard wax technique is that they don’t use wax strips. They wait for the wax to harden after application, and pull the wax on its own. The aestheticians are also great at answering questions, and always ask about the wax temperature on every application to ensure comfort. And yes, after that session, I can finally say that Strip’s Brazilian waxing is almost pain free. I say almost because while they do take extra steps to ensure that you feel the least amount of discomfort, hair is still being pulled, so yeah, there’s a very minimal amount of pain. I can also say that Strip has the best service out of all the hair removal salons I’ve been to.
Aside from the waxing techniques, the waxes being used also have properties that help reduce pain. Packed with the healing effects
of aloe vera and chamomile, STRIP’s waxes are known for significantly
reducing any discomfort that is often associated with waxing, making it
ideal for use on sensitive areas. In addition, it also helps keep waxed
areas well-hydrated, and even brightens it with regular use.
During my visit, the available waxes were the Mulled Wine Wax, Lemon and Chocolate, but they also have a myriad of other wax variants to choose from.
Now for the price!! As a special holiday promotion, everyone can enjoy
Brazilian Waxing using the limited-edition Mulled Wine Wax for only
Php1798.00 and Underarm Waxing for Php798.00 until March 2017.
A steal for an almost pain free waxing experience!

I’ll admit, when I first got inside Planet Grapes, I was wine-timidated.
One wall of the restaurant is filled with wine bottles and glasses,
enough to let you know they’re serious about wine. A little chitchat
with their servers and you’ll learn that Planet Grapes actually wants to bring wine closer to everyone taste buds, especially in a beer country like ours.
Planet Grapes is known for non-traditional food and wine pairings, from their Classic Chicharon – Sauvignon Blanc combo, to their holiday offering of Porchetta – Pinot Noir combo. I recently got to try the 2016 Holiday Menu: a completely customizable set ranging from Php 1,200 to Php 1,800 per head, and is available for preorder until the end of January 2017.
Before I get to the holiday menu, let me first tour you around the Planet Grapes Ortigas Branch, right across Rustan’s at Shangri-La Mall.
The place is nicely lit, with spacious seating arrangements, and a jolly set of waitstaff.
My favorite part of the Planet Grapes interiors is the beautiful wine bottle chandelier. What a way to showcase what the restaurant is all about.
Planet Grapes Wine Selection
Planet Grapes is proud to share that they have the biggest wine selection in the country, as their partner wine company is the biggest distributor nationwide.
On one side they have a wine dispenser, where you can get the bestsellers by the glass.
You can also get a bottle, just depends on how much you guys would consume. Remember, let’s be responsible drinkers, don’t drink and drive.
Planet Grapes Food
Chicharon with Tinapa Dip (Php 215)
who knew chicharon would taste well with a dip aside from vinegar? The dip wasn’t fishy at all, and the smokiness helped balance out the fat from chicharon
Potato Chips with Truffle (Php 145)
this was seriously addicting, I just kept getting mooore!
Squid Balls (Php 165)
a little overpriced, but what the hell, it tastes great with white wine!
Special Holiday offering: BIBINGKA!
On the night that I went there, they ran out early with the bibingka, good thing we ordered the minute we arrived because ours was the last bibingka plate to be made for the night. It was such a hit! There was a generous amount of salted egg too, so instant satisfaction.
All the appetizers above are great with white wine, and we got to pair it with Paul Mas Sauvignon Blanc.
beautifully roasted to get a really crispy skin, with a tender, juicy and slightly pink meat, the porchetta is sure to bring the festive in your foodie holiday spirit. The stuffing smelled so fragrant, giving each bite a lot of depth in flavor.
All of the mains pair nicely with a red wine, we got
Intrepid Awatere Valley Pinot Nior
to go with them.
Roasted Sous Vide Chicken
A lot of people aren’t familiar with sous vide, but it’s actually just a cooking technique that ensure the meat is cooked evenly and retains moisture. The chicken was good, definitely moist, but flavor wise is was okay. Still a good dish for sharing.
It’s perfect for seafood lovers everywhere. The squid ink sauce is perfectly seasoned and not fishy at all. Plus it’s generously topped with sliced of squid
Fans of paella valenciana would love this local version filled with longganisa, veggies and eggs.
Planet Grapes updates the absolute Pinoy snack favorite by wrapping the ripe bananas in crispy browned filo pastry served on top of warm jackfruit puree.
It’s best served with a sweet white wine, ours was with a fruity Mosel Urban Riesling.
There you go! Dine with a little wine education and great food at Planet Grapes. Take advantage of their Holiday Menu while you still can!
I rarely go up north, but when I do, I dine over at Eastwood because there are a lot of options. I recently got to visit, and found a few new restaurants along Eastwood Avenue.
I like how the restaurants are lined along the street, so it’s easy to drop off and dine. This tip is especially useful when my grandfather is having dinner with us because he finds it difficult to walk, and prefers to use his cane instead of a wheelchair. So yeah, you can also say this strip is PWD friendly.
Like the rest of Eastwood, Eastwood Avenue is perfect for long walks, dates (while holding hands of course!), or chill nights out because it’s also surrounded by pretty buildings, greenery, and benches. But the stars of the strip are the restaurants with world class taste and world renowned chefs.
I used this map from chefjayskitchen.com, to show you guys just how convenient it is to get to the strip, and how easily you can go on a food trip here because the restaurants are close to each other.
Recent additions to the strip are Gourmet Farms, Ippudo, Applebee’s, Annam, and Cafe Enye. I’ll share a few dish suggestions in this post, so you know just what to get when you find yourself in Eastwood Avenue.
For healthy eaters, there’s Gourmet Farms. All of their ingredients are fresh, staying true to the farm to table concept. Everything from the lettuce leaves to the spices, dressing, and bread, are sourced from the Gourmet Farms Estate in Cavite, so you’re ensured that every single bowl you get is fresh, healthy, and without preservatives or added chemicals.
Chicken Caesar Salad Chef’s Signature (Php 185 Regular, Php 250 Large) – grilled chicken, bacon, parmesan, hard-boiled egg, tomato, croutons, lettuce, Caesar dressing; also available as a wrap (Php 185, add 10 for whole wheat, add 20 for lettuce wrap)
Smoked Salmon Sun Dried Tomato Pesto Premium Pasta (Php 185) – smoked salmon on top of sun dried tomato pesto sauce and olives with focaccia bread
Personally I love the chicken caesar with the lettuce wrap because it’s so yum! A close second is the salmon pasta, because the pesto was also so good and flavorful. Thinking of getting the bottled sauces so I can try to replicate them at home.
Ippudo is the latest restaurant to open at Eastwood Avenue, just last
December! The ramen craze hasn’t died down in the country, and
surprisingly, for a ramen place that opens from 11am to 10pm, the place
is packed all the time!!!
Seafood Okonomiyaki (Php 295) –
Ippudo’s spin on a classic Japanese pancake stuffed with cabbage, chunks
of squid and topped with shrimp
Akamaru Special (Php 495) – Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth with miso paste, fragrant oil, topped with one slice of pork belly, ajikikurage, salted soft-boiled egg, and seaweed
Kuro Ramen (Php 520) – tonkotsu broth base infused with spicy garlic and pepper spices, plus thick noodles. Topped with shio tamago, nori, and a dab of Akamiso paste and torched chashu.
I got to see the chashu of the Kuro Ramen getting torched because of the open kitchen. Personally I find the flavors too strong because it has so much spices in it, but it’s a nice dish to try especially since it’s limited edition.
At Applebee’s, there’s always a reason to celebrate! At every table, they have this small sign that diners can write on, asking guests, “What are you celebrating today?” Making every visit feel like a party!
Applebee’s boasts of Southern American comfort food, think fried, hearty, and packed with a lot of flavor.
Most are Tex-Mex, with some dishes suited to the Filipino palate.
Quesadilla Burger (Php 525) – Juicy burger with Applebee’s signature Mexi-ranch sauce with pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and Jack and cheddar cheese
Pork Ribs (Php 650 Half, 950 full) – BBQ pork ribs marinated in Applebee’s special house blend, grilled to perfection. Served with corn on the cob, fries, and coleslaw, plus a choice of honey barbecue, smoky chipotle, spicy sweet Asian chili, and Korean barbecue sauce
Fiesta Lime Chicken (Php 395) – Grilled chicken with fiesta lime sauce, Mexi-ranch sauce and Jack cheddar. Served with crisp tortilla strips, mexi-rice, and pico de gallo
My favorite would have to be the Pork Ribs and the Fiesta Lime Chicken. The ribs were so tender and flavorful at each bite. I also love the different textures of the Fiesta Lime Chicken dish, with the crispy tortilla and cheese!!
Annam Noodle Bar
Annam is another Singaporean franchise showcasing Vietnamese favorites like pho, bahn mi, and traditional Vietnamese coffee. It’s open from 10am to 3am, so you can satisfy your Vietnamese cravings almost any time of the day.
It’s almost the end of 2016!!! Burned out from all of those holiday parties yet? I hope not! We all know Christmas in our country doesn’t end until after a few weeks in 2017. Teehee. I’ve still got a few parties to go to before th year ends, and already running out of makeup looks to rock!
Good thing I got this Total Holiday Looks box from Maybelline so I can
experiment with different looks for those get togethers. Be it a
natural, romantic, or bold look you’re going for, Maybelline has got you covered.
I’m sharing quick tutorials of THREE (3) makeup styles to go with any outfit this season.
Let’s #MakeHolidaysHappen with Maybelline!
Look 1: NATURAL #MakeNaturalHappen
For the natural no makeup makeup look, we’re using these Maybelline Products:
Smooth All-in-One powder foundation (P259) – gives you shine free coverage
while keeping the skin protected with SPF32
Fashion Brow Mascara (P249)
looking brows; neatly define your brows with the right amount of color for a fuller yet
Rosy Matte Rosy Peach (P299) – for the
perfect touch of sensationally matte
Step 1: Make sure your face is clean, or cleanse if necessary. Apply moisturizer or sunscreen, then pat Clear
Smooth All-in-One powder foundation all over the face.
Step 2: Use the wand of the Fashion Brow Mascara to brush over your brows. Brush following the direction of hair growth, or shape to your liking. Only tint the brows until filled. Don’t over apply because your brows might look too prominent and unnatural.
Step 3: Swipe on Rosy Matte Rosy Peach lipstick by tracing your natural lip line. For the natural look, we don’t really need precise lines, and you can also blur the edges for a softer look.
So there, that’s how you #MakeNaturalHappen this holiday season. Below is a side by side comparison with the peg, Liza Soberano! (Girl crush alert!)
Look 2: ROMANTIC #MakeRomanticHappen
We’ll be using these products:
Hypercurl Mascara (P199) – to make your eyes come alive; delivers
natural lash volume in a long-lasting, curling formula
V-Face Duo Stick (P499) for an instantly sharper nose in just two
V-Face Blush Contour
(P399) for a rosy contoured flirty flush
Creamy Mattes in
Rich Ruby (P299) for a truly merry kiss-mas and romance ready look.
Step 1: Curl your lashes from the roots to the tip. Then apply Hypercurl Mascara.
Step 2: Draw
two lines at the sides of your nose bridge with the contour part, then draw a line in the middle using the highlight part of V-Face Duo Stick. You can also contour the face using the same stick by drawing using thw highlight part right above the cheeks and then using the contour side under the cheeks. Blend properly using fingers, brushes, or a beauty blender, until lines fade out.
Step 3: Using the brush included in V-Face Blush Contour, apply the lightest shade above the cheek, the pinkest shade on the cheek, then the brown contour shade under the cheek. Blend after.
Step 4: Finish the look with Creamy Mattes in
for a romantic red pout.
Here’s a side by side comparison with the peg. Achieve ba?
Look 3: BOLD #MakeBoldHappen
We’ll be using these products:
Dream Satin Skin Liquid
Foundation (P499) –
for a satin-smooth and airbrush
finish, has a lightweight formula that offers unblocked
breathability while giving extraordinarily high coverage. Go big and go ultra-intense
Hypersharp Power Black Liner
(P299) – delivers blacker than black precise lines for that ultra-intense look.
Creamy Mattes in Divine Wine (P299) – creamiest matte lipstick that lasts for hours and is
sure to make you the life
of the party
Step 1: Spread an ample amount of Dream Satin Skin Liquid
Foundation, you can use a sponge for a more even application. I love how this foundation has a bit of a mousse texture.
Step 2: Line your lids with Hypersharp Power Black Liner. Since we’re going for bold, we can do a cat eye. Don’t forget to tight line so it looks solid! Tip when using eyeliner, start by dotting your lids then connect the dots to minimize mistakes.
Step 3: Apply Creamy Mattes in Divine Wine
lipstick and you’re good to go!!!
Here’s another side by side photo with peg Adriana Lima!
So there, a quick rundown of some of the looks you can rock this season. Of course, you can mix and match the products to create more looks! Good news is you can still catch the Maybelline crazy sale from November 18 to December 31 and make it happen with your desired Holiday look all season long. Only a few days until the promo ends, so see you at the Maybelline counters nationwide!
Yes, you read that right. For the first time since arriving in Philippine shores, Benefit Cosmetics is having a sale on every single product in stores!!!
Everything is at 20% off with a few products even at 50% off! Only exceptions are the new holiday kits and services. The discount is applicable at ALL branches, from Dec. 14-18, 2016 only!
I went to the Benefit branch in SM Megamall just last Wednesday to check out what was on sale, and to greet the Benebabes a Happy 5th Birthday!
The sweetest deals on the Benefit Sale-abration? The items on 50% off! Only four products are half off: Hoola Zero Tanlines Matte Body Bronzer, Dew the Hoola Soft Matte Liquid Bronzer, They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer, and Porefessional Instant Wipeout Pore Cleansing Masks!

Hola! It’s all about glam holiday makeup looks this season as we attend Christmas parties here and there. Whatever the theme of your party is, I’m sure you’ll be able to use, edit, or build on the beauty looks I’ll be sharing today.
For this post, I’m also suggesting products you could use for the looks, all found on the newest online beauty destination to hit our shores, Sephora.ph.
I scoured Pinterest for holiday looks anyone can rock this season and decided on these two. On the left is a soft, chic, glowing holiday look, while the right one sports bolder colors for bolder statements.
To be honest, both looks are very similar in technique, the one on Cara Delevingne is just more smoky, and vivid in terms of color. They both have a flawless base, with strobing and contouring, but on Cara, the contouring is more pronounced. As for the eyes, the left one features soft nudes, pinks and browns, while the right one boasts of gold, shimmer, and black.
I always use sponges for the base makeup like primer, concealer and foundation. Then the kabuki brush for finishing powder, blush and contour. Of course, one should never forget to tweeze the brows, and curl the lashes for more emphasis on your peepers.
For a makeup look to stay long, the base should be done well. since parties can go for hours, we should use primer. Follow with foundation then cover blemishes and even out color with concealer. Then finally, loosely brush on finishing powder to seal everything in.
For brows, I like using Pixi’s Brow Duo because the pencil shapes the brow, while the gel fills and locks the color in. The gel also makes the makeup last long. For the eyes, use more golds on the lid and darker colors on the crease for beautiful defined eyes. Finish off with full lashes by putting on mascara.
For cheeks, I like to put on blush first on the apples of the cheeks, then highlight with the pearly light shades on the cheekbones, nose and upper lip. Then contour with the Hoola Bronzer just below the cheeks, jawline, and side of the forehead.
I prefer a nude lip because it’s low maintenance, but for more impact, I go for a red lip. Depending on your outfit, you can go berry red, true red, or crimson.
I recently attended our company’s Christmas party and came up with this look, sort of a hybrid of the two looks before. Gold, brown and black on my lids, contouring, pink cheeks, and nude lip. Plus falsies for a mesmerizing stare. YAAAASSSS
But, if you think I picked waaay too many suggestions, you can actually just buy one set and play around with the set to get the look you want.
HELLO December! Christmas is fast approaching, which means, more holiday parties to come! I’ve been to two already in the past week, and I have yet to go to a few more, plus the family reunions. The first dilemma for holiday parties is the wardrobe, once you’ve solved that, the next hurdle? Hair & makeup. We always want to look our best when meeting people at parties, especially the people we haven’t seen for a long time.
You wouldn’t want to go to a high school Christmas reunion/get together
looking like you just had 2 hours of sleep when you want to impress
your childhood crush now, would you? Or go to family reunion and get
bashed by the usual annoying tita/aunt who says, “I think you got fatter this
year”, or “You look so much older than the last time I saw you!”
But with budget constraints, of course you spent your 13th month pay and bonuses on buying Christmas gifts and that perfect party dress. So how much does that leave you for hair and makeup??
Fear not, I was on a tight budget myself and found out where to get my hair and makeup done for free, just for the holidays!!!
Yes, FREEE! No purchase necessary.
Free Hairstyling this December 2016 at Aveda SM Makati
I first found out about Aveda’s Holiday Free Hair Styling campaign on Instagram, when a few of my blogger friends got their hair done a few weeks ago.
A photo posted by Charlene Ajose (@charleneajose) on Nov 19, 2016 at 2:12am PST
I was going to attend the Nuffnang Thanksgiving party that night, with the theme boho chic, so I wanted a look that was half nymph and half hippie.
The Aveda free hairstyling service (until Dec. 31, 2016) actually comes with four recommended hairstyles, see above. The Aveda stylist present at the Aveda SM Makati store when I walked in, was Vin. He talked to me first about what theme my event had, and what look I was going for. He eventually told me that sexy effortless waves suited my party best, so I went with that.
While having my hair done at the high chair, Vin brought out Aveda’s signature organic calming tea. It had an interesting taste, sweet because of licorice, refreshing because of peppermint, and bitter with all the other plants infused.
What’s great about this free hair styling service is you get to sample their products. I loved the Smooth Infusion product line from Aveda because it protects my hair from damage from blow drying and ironing my hair.
Then tada! After a few minutes, I got my sexy waves done! Now off to makeup!
Free Makeover at the Dior Boutique in SM Makati
Thankfully, I didn’t have to go far to get my makeup done! I actually discovered that you can get your makeup done for free at the Dior Boutique during the Black Friday Sale at SM Makati. A group of girls walked in and asked if they could have their makeup done for their company Christmas party. I overheard their conversation and learned that they do makeovers for free, you just need to book an appointment beforehand.
I always thought makeup brands only do makeovers when you purchase something, but Dior just wants more people to experience their brand. Hence the free makeover. I personally love the Rouge Dior in 999 Matte, which is probably the prettiest red lippie I own. It’s a true red, so I can wear it with almost every look.
Anyway, back to my makeover. My Dior makeup artist was Angel, like in
Aveda, she asked me what look I was going for so she could prepare the
products to be used on me. We settled on a brown smoky eye boho look
with nude lips.
Makeup artists usually don’t get my
foundation shade right the first time because my skin is acidic. So I
always tell them that beforehand. Angel ended up mixing two shades of
the Dior Nude Air liquid foundation to match my skin.
What I love about having my makeup done by a professional is how fast it takes them to finish a whole look! I was only in that makeup chair for 20 minutes, and I looked almost poreless and glowing after.
So there! That’s how I got my hair and makeup done for FREE!!! Hop on over to the SM Makati Beauty Section and check out Aveda for hair and the beautiful Dior Boutique for a makeover!
And oh, in case you guys were wondering, here’s my final look for the party.
I remembered that I had this pretty headpiece from this post, which was perfect for the theme!
Go ahead and get your Holiday looks perfect with these makeovers! Let me know if you loved your experience like I did! Also, if you do get a makeover with any of the brands above, spread the word and use the hashtags #AvedaPH #AvedaHoliday #AvedaStylingWeekend, and #DiorBoutiquePH #IFeelGood.
The guys over at Raging Bull Chophouse & Bar are dead serious when they tell you they serve good steak. If its name isn’t indication enough, they are confident when it comes to their meats, creating a steak experience like no other.
Raging Bull serves up high quality meats and sides, decadent desserts,
and signature cocktails, beautifully plated, and at reasonable prices.
Located inside Shangri-La Hotel at the Fort, BGC, the restaurant aims to be a make a name of itself not as a hotel dining option, but as a gastronomic destination, competing with other great restaurants in the area.
As expected with any establishment inside the Shangri-La, Raging Bull also has an upscale vibe. The interiors were done by New York firm Avroko, showing every diner that no expense was spared to make everyone feel like a VIP.
It feels somewhere in between fine and casual dining, with posh accents, leather upholstered furniture, ambient lighting, and dark hues all over. In my opinion, the place looks very masculine, reminiscent of a Great Gatsby movie, but modernized. I could very well picture an impeccably dressed Leonardo Dicaprio, George Clooney, or Robert De Niro dining here.
Raging Bull’s bar is stocked full with a selection of fine wines, bourbon, whiskey, and other alcohol. Their specialties are old fashioned cocktails, using only the best ingredients available.
Name your preferred poison, and they might just have it on shelf.
While waiting for your cocktail, you can munch on their complimentary prosciutto and beef jerky.
These are seriously addicting, I couldn’t stop munching on the prosciutto and the jerky!
Their signature drink is the Bonifacio Penicillin (Php
400), made with Elijah Craig 12 yrs Bourbon, fresh calamansi, homemade
ginger jam, homemade Szechuan chili infused honey, and egg whites. It was my favorite drink from everything we’ve tried there. Very refreshing, it’s one drink I’d come back for.
As it is their signature drink, they just had to put a huge stamped ice cube with the Raging Bull logo. I love the attention to detail!
The Boulevardier (left) and the Dirty Blue Blazer (right). If I remember correctly, they’re both whisky based. Very strong, they’re both for hardcore whisky drinkers. I have to commend the deep and smoky flavor from the Dirty Blue Blazer, it’s something I’ve never tried before.
The El Toro Loco (left) and the Maple Bacon (right). El Toro Loco is tequila based, with a lot of cucumber juice and some citrus. I’m not a fan of cucumber, but this one was refreshing and light, perfect for brunch. The Maple Bacon on the other hand, was an other strong one, whiskey based, it was woody, but the bacon helped the flavor a lot.
The Mamma Mia, a pineapple coconut concoction that easily transports you to the beach. Even the chunky wooden barrel-mug is very tropical!
As I said earlier, STEAK is king in this restaurant, but they also serve pretty good sides, appetizers, desserts, and I even spotted oysters and lobsters in their menu.
Guests are encouraged to try their complimentary bread basket, filled with their signature sourdough bread with bull horns! It’s good on its own, but butter makes it even better.
It was actually my first time to try anchovies instead of the usual chicken in Ceasar salad. It was good, but nothing was spectacular. I liked the crunch and texture from the pancetta and parmesan, and the egg tied everything together nicely
Maryland Crab Cake
charred orange, aioli, palm heart
I absolutely loved this one. It wasn’t oily, and every bite was crab heaven. The juicy savory crab is covered inside a crispy crust and was balanced out with the orange and the aioli, but they could do without the palm heart. A bit pricey, but with something packed with that much crab, it was worth it.
What’s different about Raging Bull is that they get their meats from different places worldwide. They even indicate which city or country on their menu!
They cook their steaks inside a Josper grill, which is actually a combination of an oven and a grill, inspired by an old Spanish tradition. And oh, the head chef is Australian, so he really knows how to treat his meats.
On The Chopping Block:
Tenderloin (Php 1650 for 200g) Cape Grim Grass-fed, from Tasmania Rib Eye (Php 3100 for 350g) 1824 Grain-fed, from Queensland Scotch Fillet (Php 3400 for 350g) Darling Downs Wagyu 5+ Grass-raised, Grain-finished, Queensland
The Scotch Fillet is expectedly the fatty one out of the three, because well, Wagyu, but it has a 5+ marble score, which tells you it will be tasty and it will be juicy. It was.
Each one was cooked to medium rare perfection, which is how I like my steaks.
My favorite one would be the rib eye. It was perfect, I swear. Tender, juicy, and in a league of its own. I didn’t have to dip it in anything.
Diners have the option to choose between four of their sauces to pair with the meats: Truffle Mushroom Sauce, Choron, Hunter Valley Wine Sauce, Black Peppercorn Sauce. My favorite was the Truffle Mushroom, while I would recommend the Choron for those looking for a spicy kick.
They also serve the steaks with 6 seasonings: plain salt, porcini mushroom salt, lemongrass chili salt, dijon mustard, pommery mustard, Raging Bull mustard. The Raging Bull mustard is made with shallots, paprika, cayenne pepper, dijon mustard and red wine vinegar. I loved the Raging Bull mustard the most, it was tangy, a bit spicy, and savory at the same time, I would pair wit with the Wagyu as that one is a bit fatty. the porcini infused salt is also great if you just want to add a tiny bit of seasoning to your steak.
Another unique experience at Raging Bull is how they let the diners choose which knife to use for their steak. The servers are quite knowledgeable and can recommend which knife is suited to your meat, be it pork, beef, fish or otherwise. Or you can just get a feel of each one and get whichever feels handy. Teehee. And oh, for the brand conscious, there are some knives designed by Louis Vuitton and other popular luxury houses.
The crowd pleaser out of all the sides was the pumpkin. I loved how the sweetness was contrasted with the sharp cheese, and the puffed wild rice added texture and a bit of an earthy flavor. Second would be the asparagus, each stalk was crispy and cooked well, and tasted great with the sauce. the salad was just so so.
I’d love to go back and try the potato gratin with gruyere next time, it sounds so divine.
For a steakhouse, they serve really good desserts, and with a great selection too! Covering sweet, tangy, and even the slightly savory.
Candy Floss Pavlova (Php 315) with passion fruit pulp and mango sorbet
I’m not a meringue fan, so i didn’t like it as much as the others. For me this was too sweet, so the passion fruit pulp inside was perfect to counter the sweetness
Pistachio Creme Brulee (Php 340) with mint infused strawberry salad
I liked this one because I love pistachios, but I hoped that the pistachio flavor would stand out more. The sweetness was just right, and the strawberries went well with it. i also liked how the brulee was initially hidden by the super thin cookie. the brulee was smooth, creamy, and really a dream for custard lovers like me.
tada! What’s inside, where the pistachio creme brulee really was.
Granny Smith Apple Cobbler (Php 340) with double vanilla ice cream
My favorite out of all the desserts, it was so hearty! Sure it was heavy, but you could really feel the love put into it. I couldn’t get enough of the crust, while the sweet spiced filling countered the slightly sour apples.
All in all, I had a great time at Raging Bull. I would definitely come back. One thing that stood out for me is how they encourage diners with the power of choice, with the knives, and sauces. It gives the illusion of having a personalized dining experience. For me, Raging Bull Chophouse & Bar is the beast steakhouse in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
And if you think these are pricey, they also have a Lunch Menu (or lunch sets) ranging from Php 980 for two course (starter and main), and Php 1180 for 3 course (starter, main and dessert)

With 2016 coming to an close in a few weeks, that only means one thing, it’s planner season yet again! There’s one planner I’m looking forward to getting this season, and it’s the Giving Journal 2017 from the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
I’ve personally been using CBTL planners since 2014, so this year isn’t any different. Back in college, i would hang out here often for study dates with friends, so it was easy to fill up my planner stamp card. Even if I don’t visit CBTL as often, I do make it a point to collect stamps for a planner each year because I know the proceeds go to a good cause.
I also love the message of each Giving Journal, because even if the theme changes each year, the effects stays the same, that is: to serve others.
The theme for this year is: the cup that changes lives. I’ve participated in a few activities with CBTL’s the Caring Cup this year, in partnership with different organizations, and they strive to help more people in the next years to come. The
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® reminds us that life is not about what we
amass for ourselves, but about how we can share our gifts, talents, and
time with others.
From October 22 onwards, customers can already
begin their Giving Journey as the collecting of stamps for the 2017
Giving Journal starts in all The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® stores.
They will also be serving the Holiday Featured Beverages (three for this year):
Double Chocolate Strawberry Latte
Double Chocolate Strawberry Ice Blended
Winter Dream Tea Latte
So how do you get the Giving Journal 2017?
Customer must complete a Seasons Givings Giving Journal 2017 stamp card
Each stamp card consists of 12 circles with corresponding purchased
All 12 stamps must be accumulated in one stamp card
to claim the journal.
The 12 stamps consists of: eight (8) stamps for any choice of drink, one (1) tea latte, one (1) original ice blended, one (1) coffee/espresso based beverage, and one (1) holiday featured beverage
A box of CBTL™ capsules earns the customer two
stamps, while any CBTL™ Single Serve Beverage System purchase
automatically allows a customer to claim the 2017 Giving Journal.
Tip: If you have or know anyone who has the Giving Journal 2016, the December coupon earns you a double stamp for any drink. Also, you can check out CBTL on social media because they announce double stamp events to help you complete your stamp card faster.
in 4 colors—rose, purple, gray, and turquoise, the Giving Journal is a
useful planner and a medium for generosity where you can begin writing
the beautiful story of your own Giving Journey.
If you’ve noticed, the four planners have different designs, representing Four Icons:
Caring Cup Global (Gray) – the Caring Cup initiative aims to give back to farmers and communities, whether it’s providing them a sustainable source of livelihood or education for their children
Overflows (Purple) – through CBTL’s efforts and those of their partner organizations, aim to nurture growth and provide a better life for others, one cup at a time
Radiating Heart (Pink) – The power to spread goodwill lies within all of us. CBTL lives up to this essence of giving by performing little acts of kindness towards others
Coffee Tree Cup (Turquoise) – acknowledge life as one to overflow. Brew your best year by developing yourself, striving to reach your full potential, and sharing your unique gifts and blessings with others.
Through the 2017
Giving Journal, you empower scholars by giving them gift of education
through the Real LIFE Foundation, the Giving Journal’s beneficiary since
2011. By supporting their educational needs, you bring them one step
closer to achieving their goals, enabling their dreams to take flight.
Real Life Foundation is the Giving Journal’s primary beneficiary, but CBTL has actually partenered with other organizations throughout the year, and in the years to come. Remember when I blogged about Solar Saturdays?
They also have a partnership with Hope in a Bottle. You can buy the Christmas 2017 bottles in CBTL stores!
And some of their other charity partners:
Begin your Giving Journey by giving the gift of education this holiday season.
