OFRA Manila: Your New Favorite Nude Liquid Lip (Swatch + Review)

There’s a new nude lippie in town, and it’s perfect for Filipinas!Out of all the liquid lipsticks I’ve tried, I really love OFRA’s Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks. Believe me, I’ve been through a lot of liquid lipstick brands, and nothing beats the creamy matte texture, vanilla scent and intense color payoff that OFRA has. I already love the Pasadena and Laguna Beach shades as really great MLBB picks, but the new shade, Manila, is becoming a fast favorite.

This time around, OFRA Cosmetics has collaborated with its local official distributor, Glamourbox, to create a nude lipstick shade that’s suitable for varying Filipina skintones.

The
result is this beautiful OFRA MANILA nude shade. Ofra Manila on its own is already pretty, but when layered with lip pencils or other lipsticks, say a pink or peach tone, will create a soft and sweet look. While a darker mauve or berry mixed or layered in creates a more sultry and romantic look. I predict the OFRA Manila will become everyone’s favorite neutral nude!

I got the OFRA Manila Kit ala Kylie Lip Kit, matched with a Pink Lipliner, also from OFRA.

Swatches:

On me, it looks nude brown with a tiny hint of pink, a little lighter than cocoa brown. I tried it with the pink lipliner, and the result is a softer nude, with a bit of a rosy tone.

OFRA Manila looks different on varying skintones, just check out this video from BeautyMNL. On lighter skin, Manila looks like a rosy taupe, on medium to dark skin, it looks like a light nude brown.

Overall, I like OFRA Manila, because it’s very MLBB on me, and easy to match with different makeup looks.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Manila retails at Php 850 and is available in glamourbox.ph, SM Beauty and Watsons (Makati, MOA, Aura,
North Edsa and The Block), Landmark Department Store (Makati and
Trinoma), Metro Alabang, and Purebeauty on May 31, 2017. It will also be
available at beautymnl.com, calyxta.com and zalora.com.ph and
Commonthread stores by July 1, 2017.

Shaburi: Japanese hotpot in Uptown BGC (Review)

I love shabu shabu (hotpot), there’s just something about warm, hearty but healthy soup and cooking fresh ingredients easily in a tasty broth that keeps me coming back for more.

Recently, I got to try Shaburi, a Japanese hotpot franchise from Indonesia’s food concept group, Dining Innovation.

What’s unique about Shaburi is that every diner has his/her own personal hotpot stove, so you don’t have to worry about sharing your broth with other people (like in other hotpot restos), or double dipping!

For 90 minutes, diners get to enjoy unlimited servings of meat cooked in your choice of broth/soup. Shaburi has 5 different soups: Original Konbu, Sukiyaki, Soy Milk Miso, Chicken Collagen Paitan, and Hot Miso. Each diner is also entitled to an unlimited buffet spread of fresh vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, and unlimited drinks, plus dessert! Also, they recently introduced their Lunch Menu, which offers limited plates
of meat. Perfect for those looking for a lighter version to Shaburi’s
usual All You Can Meat menu.

The Shaburi Experience

The waiters here are courteous and patient, always explaining the step by step process of enjoying Japanese shabu shabu before ordering.

According to the waitstaff, this is the Shaburi way:

Step 1: Choose your MEAT

For the Lunch Set / Plate Set Menu, the Regular Shabu Set (either Tasty
Beef or Tender Pork) costs Php 399 for 1 plate of meat, and php 449 for 2
plates of meat. The Shaburi Wagyu set costs Php 535 for 1 plate and 675
for 2 plates of wagyu. Both of these sets include unlimited buffet,
drinks and dessert.

As for the All You Can Meat version, which includes unlimited meat plates, unlimited buffet, drinks, and desserts these are the rates:

  • Regular Shabu (choice of Tasty Beef and Tender Pork) Php 499
  • Special Shabu (choice of Special Beef, Tasty Beef and Tender Pork) Php 789
  • Shaburi Wagyu (choice of Shaburi Wagyu, Special Beef, Tasty Beef, and Tender Pork) Php 1,249
  • Special Wagyu (choice of Special Wagyu, Shaburi Wagyu, Special Beef, Tasty Beef, and Tender Pork) Php 1,599

For the purpose of this review, I got to try the Shaburi Wagyu, Tasty Beef, Tender Pork, and a seafood set, which they will be offering soon. See photos below:

Shaburi Wagyu

Tasty Beef

Tender Pork

Seafood Set which consists of salmon and shrimp! Soon on the Shaburi menu.

Step 2: Choose Your Hotpot Soup

The waitstaff always presents tasting samples of all 5 soups to every diner, so everyone can try before they pick their soup.

Here are Shaburi’s 5 soups:

  • Original Konbu: Japanese seaweed soup abundant with calcium and minerals. Good for children and pregnant women. Helps prevent fatigue, stress and improves stomach condition
  • Sukiyaki: Sweet & balanced soup that comes with an egg, to make the meat more tasty and flavorful
  • Soy Milk Miso: deemed the healthiest of the 5, has the golden ratio of soy milk and miso. High in proteins and vitamins, it helps in strengthening the body’s immune system
  • Chicken Collagen Paitan: Rich in collagen to help improve skin complexion
  • Hot Miso:The only spicy option among the 5. Miso has been found to help prevent stomach conditions, combat fatigue, and even help to slow down the effects of aging.

Out of the 5, only the Original Konbu has free refills, for the other 4, there is an extra charge. But if you opt to have the Original Konbu as the refill after your first serving of one of the other four, the refill is free.

As mentioned before, every diner gets a personal cooking stove and pot. Meaning you don’t have to share, or worry about double dipping, or having the taste of your broth altered with the contents of somebody else’s hotpot mix. Yay for shabu shabu lovers right?

I ended up picking the Chicken Collagen Paitan (next photo) because I liked the richness of it, and thought my veggies would taste great while cooking with this one.

Step 3: Choose your appetizers, side dishes, fresh vegetables, dipping sauces, drinks, and desserts from the Unlimited Buffet

The have a variety of vegetables, most of which are hotpot staples like Kailan.

I loved the mushroom selection the most, because they had a lot! Enoki, Golden mushroom, shiitake, etc.

They also have a nice selection for the shabu shabu sauce. I recommend getting the original shabu shabu sauce, and then adding garlic, leeks, soy sauce, and chili to taste.

They also have some sushi rolls and some cooked food, like battered fried fish, fried corn balls, gyoza, karaage, chicken wings, and udon carbonara.

At the end of the buffet are the desserts like fresh fruits, and some cakes and panna cotta. Not in photo are the unlimited drinks like iced tea, lemonade, coffee and tea.

Step 4: Cook and Enjoy!

I always put the noodles in first because they tend to cook the longest, then I follow with corn and other veggies, mushrooms, and last the meat. The meat takes just a few seconds to cook, so watch out if you’re not a fan of overcooked meat. 🙂

I usually just dip the meat in the boiling soup for a few seconds until the meat is sufficiently cooked, then I dip it into my personal shabu shabu sauce concoction, then on top of a spoon of rice, then enjoy! With a few sips of the soup in between.

Again the soup has free refills of the Original Konbu, but Shaburi charges extra for the refills of the other four soups. I opted to get the free Original Konbu soup refill after for a different experience. The collagen tends to be a bit rich, so I felt that it was too much to get a second refill of it.

Anyhow, I had a great time at Shaburi. You definitely get more value for money if you choose the All You Can Meat menu, but you can opt for the plate set if you’re not into pigging out.

I also recommend going in groups even if the hotpot stove is personal so you can poke fun at each other’s cooking skills. Or if you’re more of a solo diner, go ahead, enjoy your own Shaburi hotpot experience without being conscious of eating out of a big pot. 🙂

See you there?
