Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is around the corner, and I’m so excited! I already have some surprises in store for mom, and because I won’t be able to do everything, I’m sharing all of my gift ideas for Mother’s Day 2017!

What have you got planned this weekend? Whether you’re bringing out your mom, or anyone who stands in as your mom, like say a dad who doubles as both of your parents, or an uncle or aunt who fulfills the role, among others, I’m sure you can get at least one idea from this list.

Here goes:

Mother’s Day Gift Suggestions:

1. Send them a beautifully made edible arrangement

My mom isn’t a fan of flowers like I am, but she loves fruits a lot, so I’m giving her one of the fruit bouquets!

This particular arrangement is called ‘Mama’ priced at 950 each and includes chocolates covered apples and bananas, big juicy strawberries and lots of grapes. I personally ate the fruits already to test it out and see if my mom would potentially like receiving one, and the strawberries are really sweet, plus the chocolate coating is good and decadent without the guilt, because yay fruits!

You can order one online via Fruits in Bloom’s website or check them out on Instagram @fruitsinbloom.

2. Throw a Sunday brunch party in their honor

And have a mini reunion too! These days I’m having difficulty seeing all the members of my family together in one place because everyone is so busy! My sister is taking her accountancy board exam soon, my brother is currently a medical student intern at the UST hospital and my parents are busy with the business, so it’s really hard to get everyone in one place at the same time! Mother’s Day brunch is the perfect way to get us all together and catch up.

Got some inspiration from Pinterest and making pastel colored baked goods to go with the floral fun colorful brunch theme I have in mind.

3. Pamper them with a spa session

Our mom’s are busy, really busy, that they often forget to sit down, relax and just enjoy. Which is why a sparty is a great idea for on-the-go, super hands on, crazy busy moms.

You can do a DIY sparty at home with mud masks and sheet masks from your nearby Watsons stores (lots of savings for SM Advantage Card holders!!), or go out to a spa or salon for a massage, mani-pedi, or a new hairdo for less DIY. Salons like Beauty and Butter and Make Me Blush Nail Spa and Beauty Lounge have great value for money packages (think foot spa + mani pedi) plus nice interiors that will get your mom relaxed in no time.

Whichever your preference, mom would love it because aside from the pampering, you’ll get to bond over funny masks faces, nail polish colors, the small talk in between, and maybe even some long overdue catch up on life. This might be the right time to update you on how you’ve been lately, so she doesn’t worry as much, and realize that her kids are doing great.

Benefit’s Bold is Beautiful Brow Wax Challenge

If you’re going out for that much needed brow salon sesh, consider having them done at a Benefit Brow Bar near you. For the whole month of May, all income from every brow wax session will be donated to Benefit’s beneficiary, Mano Amiga, as part of the global Bold is Beautiful project by Benefit. The project aims to empower women and girls to have Big Dreams and Bold Moves, and Mano Amiga does just that by doing livelihood workshops and providing education for them.

As an added treat, if you purchase a Benefit Brow Wax Gift Card from BeautyMNL, you get a complementary upper lip or chin wax along with a Gimme Brow mini, until supplies last. That’s a lot of value for helping out in Benefit’s Bold is Beautiful project. I’m sure mom will appreciate having brows on fleek while helping out another mom who will benefit from Mano Amiga’s livelihood workshop.

4. Get crafty with a little DIY

I saw a video of this going viral on Facebook, and it was pretty cool for a pop up card, so I just had to include it in this list!

Or if you find this DIY too complicated (Watch it here), You can just make a handwritten love note sharing how much you appreciate her. Whichever floats your boat, go for it!

5. Go on a shopping date

No one is immune to a little retail therapy, especially if it’s tabbed on someone else! Treat your mom to a few things, or volunteer your dad as tribute at the cashier (haha).

Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) 2017

The first leg of MYOH 2017 is happening this May 12-14, 2017, just in time for Mother’s Day! This year’s theme is 90′s, so expect to see 90′s gadgets, candies, comics and whatnot at the venue.

I already have my own commemorative pair (another post on which pins I got), thanks to the recent media launch, but I’m sure you and mom, along with the rest of your family, will have fun customizing your own Havaianas pair. Also get in a few 90′s jabs in, like when your mom would prevent you from getting your favorite RingPop, Pushpop, or bubblegum tape back when you were a kid.

Or share how you miss playing pixelated games like Pac Man on the old Family Computer, or how you would argue with siblings on whose turn it is to play. Teehee

The limited edition pins are tooo adorable, some of them are even glow in the dark! For more details on how to join MYOH 2017, and when the other legs and locations are, check out the website.

Now how about finding mom her signature scent, if she still doesn’t have one, or getting her a new luxurious perfume?

Dior’s New Fragrance: J’Adore in Joy

J’adore In Joy, Dior’s newest offering from its vast fragrance line, is a perfume that literally “smells” of joy. According to the girls over at the Dior Boutique in SM Makati, it’s a scent that would give you instant pleasure, invigorating your love of life.

The J’Adore in Joy is unique in that it has salty facet to it, infused with a flower custom-crafted in Grasse.
The floral-fruity-salty perfume has both the Ylang-Ylang essence from Madagascar and Jasmine Sambac. These floral notes are brightened with the refreshing Fleur de Sel for the salty and finished with the fruity from a juicy peach. In a nutshell: A light and salty nectar, as refreshing as a beautiful, ripe fruit. That, is the J’Adore in Joy.

Aside from the perfume, it comes with a hair mist that smells divine. One spray is all it takes and your hair will give off a beautiful scent when you swoosh your hair from left to right. I swear, having great smelling hair just gives an extra bounce to every step.

If your mom’s not a fragrance person, you can opt to get her a lipstick for a pop of color to her complexion. Dior also just released the new Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, promising moisture, shine, and lasting power in one swipe. Also, the lippies are Jennifer Lawrence approved, if that helps. The shade Be Dior is a huge hit, or if your mom likes deeper shades, the Sauvage is a good idea.

Dior stores are located in SM Makati, Rustan’s
Department Store Shangri-La Plaza Mall, SM Aura, and Alabang Town

Gadgets for the feeling-Millenial Mom

If your mom is anything like mine, she loves browsing the internet for
cute baby photos and videos, plus streaming her K-Drama favorites. My
mom’s current obsession is the cute Scarlet Snow Belo, whose videos my
mom watches everyday! Because of watching online videos most of the
time, my mom always runs out of battery, so I’m thinking of gifting her another powerbank (Yes, she already has one, but she watches so much,
even one depletes easily). New cases are always welcome because mom has to protect her new favorite gadget.

Because a healthy lifestyle is also trending, why not get mom a FitBit? The new FitBit Charge HR2′s colorways are really nice, and I’m eye-ing the rose gold one too. It’s also a great way to help mom track her heart rate, if she does start exhibiting symptoms for some lifestyle diseases. My mom’s getting to senior citizen age in a few year’s time, so she’s into a lot of walking, dancing, and a little exercise when she has the time, so she would appreciate that FitBit.

All the gadgets above cane be found in any Digital Walker outlets nationwide.

That’s it for my gift ideas, how about you?

Always remember that no matter what you get your mother on Mother’s Day, what’s still most important is the time your spend together. Let your mom know she is appreciated, be it Mother’s day or any regular day. That will always put a smile on her face.

Salute to all the moms everywhere! I can only hope to be as awesome as you guys are when I become one.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Sun-proofing with the new Biore UV Watery Gel (Review)

I’m an avid fan of sunscreen, and I always always make it a point to
apply some before going out. Especially this summer, when the weather is scorching hot, sunscreen is a must.

But that wasn’t always the case. I used to dislike putting on sunscreen when I was younger because the available products back then had sticky, very white, and thick
formulas that made it feel really uncomfortable. I only used them at the beach, because the formula just didn’t look and feel like it would blend well with any of my daily makeup or skincare products.

Fast forward to a few years later, when there were more studies on the effects of daily UV exposure (even indoors!) that I finally gave in and applied sunscreen as often as I could. It still took me a few more years until I got used to applying it on my skin, because I finally found one product I could stick to.

It was a while back when my mom hoarded Biore products at a sale during a trip to Malaysia. We started with the Biore UV milk as both a base and sun protection product, and eventually tried other stuff from the brand. We’ve been hooked ever since.

I loved the UV milk, it was lightweight for everyday use, and had a powdery finish, making the sunscreen almost undetectable because it had little to no white cast. Now, they’ve developed a new product, the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel that’s really undetectable!

The Bioré  UV  Watery  Gel’s secret  is  the  gel’s “aqua  micro capsules”   which gives the gel a light, non-sticky, and easy absorption that leaves your skin cool after applying. I tested it out during a walking tour with the Biore team around Manila, and true enough, it felt so light, you wouldn’t notice you’ve applied anything at all.

Here’s a roundup of what I love about the Biore UV Watery Gel:

  • allergy -tested
  • SPF  50+  and  PA++++
  • non-sticky, non-greasy
  • easy to spread gel formula
  • leaves a cooling and hydrating effect
  • invisible, weightless finish
  • good for both face and body
  • great value for money, 90mL for just Php 460

Here’s a photo of me caught in the act of reapplying sunscreen. Teehee. Reapplying is such a dream because even if you put another layer, it doesn’t get heavier and stays invisible.

Snapped a photo of it inside Ava’s backpack too because the blue popped with the pink <3

We also got to try other Biore products while at it.

In photo:

  • Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence (Php 420 for 50g)
  • Biore UV Perfect Spray (Php 299 for 50g) – another favorite because it dries as a powder, very affordable and convenient to apply because it can even go over makeup with caking. It’s currently exclusive to Watsons and SM Beauty and available until June! Hoard while you can!
  • Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel (Php 460 for 90mL)

The Bioré UV Watery Gel and the rest of the Bioré line are available online at For physical stores, Biore is available at select Watsons, PCX, Landmark, Metro Dept Stores, Cash & Carry Supermarket or check Biore Philippines at Facebook and Instagram (@bioreph) for more details.

Now some snaps from our Manila walking tour!

Fort Santiago

I went to Fort Santiago when I was in elementary for a school field trip, and I haven’t been there since then. It’s nice to see that this very important historical site is being restored and preserved to this day. Fort Santiago is a citadel constructed during the Spanish colonization period and is most known for being our national hero Jose Rizal’s last prison before his execution in Bagumbayan.

I vaguely remember these brass footprints back when I was a kid. The tour guide shared that this was the route Jose Rizal walked on to his execution.

There’s also the Rizal Shrine museum inside the fort, where Rizal’s memorabilias are kept.

Above: Jose Rizal’s business cards for his eye clinic in Hong Kong.

If Rizal had Instagram, this would be his selfie feed.

San Agustin Church

Ending this post with a view of the Pasig River, taken by my blogger friend Ruthilicious. You can also check out our walking tour posts that day, just search for the hashtag #EverydaywithBioreUV on social media.

Hope you enjoyed my post for today! Let me know if you’ve tried Biore as well.
