Floral Blues

I’m exhausted lately. These days it’s usually study, eat, sleep, repeat; a stark contrast to the eat sleep rave repeat Boracay lifestyle I experienced weeks ago. I still feel like I haven’t been studying enough for my board exam though. Ugh. Wish me luck!

Anyway, I took a breather and went to this French bistro behind Greenhills Promenade a few weeks back. I loved the whole experience: the food was divine, and the place was just lovely.

I actually wore this look on the first day of my trip to Korea. Because of all the stressing things that happened to our flight, we were unable to get decent photos of my ootd. I was even wearing a leather jacket over my top when we landed in Korea. Sadly, that jacket got ripped by accident so I won’t be able to use it anymore. Goodbye leather jacket, it was fun going places with you.

I got both the top and jeans from Freego’s latest line. Jeans are a staple in every girl’s wardrobe. It’s that versatile piece that can wear to almost any event. Dress it up with a sequin or lace top and you’re good to go for a girl’s night out. Pick a dark wash, top with a tailored blazer, and you can go to an important meeting. For my look, it was a casual day out, so the floral print and simple cut of my top worked perfectly.

I used to be afraid of light colored denims because I always thought they made my thighs look bigger. This one surprised me. It belonged to Freego’s Super Shaper line which lifts and sculpts depending on your body type. With jeans like these, you’ll never have to worry about awkward bulges, or getting an ill-fit. I’m so happy Freego designed jeans like these that cater to any size and shape!

Also, my top was just perfect for the weather, the material is breezy without being too thin or sheer. It also helped that it had a floral print that I’m always so fond of.

If I haven’t said it enough, I’ll say it again, I love this Rags2Riches Cruiser bag! I took it to Korea with me a few weeks ago, and it’s so roomy, it fit all my essentials perfectly. My DSLR, Instax cameras, various gadgets, cosmetics case, and even my bulky reviewers! It’s my favorite bag so far, and I use it to tote around my heavy laptop too. Even with all that, the bag is still in tip top shape. It doesn’t hurt that it matches a lot of my looks too, fashion plus functionality, in one bag, what else are you looking for?

I got these Zara boots on sale for a little less than 1000 a few months ago, such a steal right? It’s comfy too, with a thick soft padding for the insole.

Hype this on 🙂

The interiors of Brasserie Cicou are halfway between rustic and charming, just the way I like it.

I tried taking my ootds inside, but the lighting wasn’t so good.

See? The pants look great on me! Yay for Freego Super Shapers!

Everything I ate in this restaurant was just divine. EEEEP.

and the highlight of my meal, the dessert, the yummy Kouign Amann.

Now I’m back to my studying! Until my next post!

Cynos Hair Makeover

“Curly curly perm!”
This was a phrase I heard from my favorite Japanese drama of all time, Hana Yori Dango. I was always fascinated by the curly hair of the male lead, Domyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si’s Japanese counterpart), because it was so fluffy, and perfectly styled each time he came up on screen.

I was always apprehensive with getting my hair permed because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to maintain it, or tame it even. I have really thick hair, so I was afraid my hair would turn into a big frizzy mess.

This time though, as I am approaching a new chapter in my life I decided it was time to try something new. It was just good timing when I received an email from Cynos Inside Hair Care asking if I would have my hair permed using their Nano Digital Perm Products. I said yes eventually after learning that the service was going to be done at Azta Urban Salon Eastwood, a highly reputable salon.

My hair is naturally straight, stubborn, frizzy and dry. The days when my hair looks great are those days that I make an effort to blow dry, iron or curl it. I asked if the Nano Digi Perm could possibly further damage my hair, and surprisingly, according to research, it doesn’t. Let’s talk more about that later.

When I settled into my salon chair, I was so delighted for the warm welcome Azta Urban Salon gave me. I squealed when I saw my photo neatly framed and arranged in front of my mirror. And yes, I took that photo home with me. Teehee.

For a better turnout for my future curls, my stylist Glenda recommended that I have my hair cut into a more layered shape. This way, the curls wouldn’t be concentrated in the bottom. The layers would give my curls a better body and volume, as well as show off my hair color. My other hair stylist Mhel (from their Metroeast branch) was the one who cut my hair.

To achieve my soft perm, Azta uses the Cynos Nano Ceramic Perm Treatment. They used the Nano Cermaic Perm Lotion 1 (white bottle), which 1) opens the cuticle 2) disconnects the disulfide bonds, and 3) condition and protects (Cysteine Acid). After which they used the Neutralizer No. 2 (green bottle) which relinks the broken bonds, and softens and conditions hair. The nano perm technology dramatically improves the construction of damaged hair by restoring hair back to its optimum condition. It works on a nano scale, targeting the smallest possible units, to ensure the best results. Research also shows that the nano perm technology protects your hair color while perming.

They proceeded to apply nano Ceramic Lotion 1 by sections. The only treatment ever done to my hair is coloring and color conditioning, so it is pretty virgin when it comes to treatments. Glenda said that since my hair was virgin, it would take longer to break the disulfide bonds that keep my hair intact. I waited for about an hour before they were satisfied with the result. Afterwards they rinsed off the lotion and proceeded to apply Neutralizer No. 2, while putting on the roller things.

All these they were doing while I was studying my notes. Haha. Talk about multi tasking, we had a comprehensive exam at the review center the next day so I was studying for that in the salon.

Fun fact, my hair was so thick they ran out of rollers of the same size. They had to resection some to fit all the rollers that they had. After getting them on, they plugged each one to the machine. I was told that only Azta had that machine since it was the newest of its kind in the market right now.

I’m telling you, all those strings strapped to my head was really really heavy. I had problems keeping my head up the whole time. The plugged rods are also hot, so it was mildly uncomfortable.

While all that was happening, I got myself a pedicure. Azta isn’t carrying gel nail services yet, but Cynos’ brought along a special nail technician just for  the CND Shellac Gel Nails.

So what is Shellac? Shellac is a breakthrough, patent-pending UV3 technology that combines the ease of polish with the permanence of gels. No other products in the market can stand up to the claim – on like polish, wears like gel, off in minutes. Unlike other gel polishes, CND Shellac does not include harmful ingredients like Formaldehyde, Toluene or DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate).

And oh, thank you to Kingsue for giving us food and refreshments at the event! I especially liked the German spicy franks you served us.

Tada! See how my pink nails match my Ipanema heart flipflops?

Gel polishes are difficult to take off on our own, CND Shellac has created a 3 step easy removal process that makes it more convenient. However, it is still recommended that gel nails be taken off my a trained nail technician.

After the long wait, they finally took off the hot rods! Yay for less weight on my head! This was the cooling part.

And tada! See my wet curls?

And now presenting, my before and after hair photos, such a big difference yes?

I’m actually pretty happy with the result. In the photo it looks really tight and curly but now my hair looks great! I now have the soft waves I was going for.

Cynos also gave me the Bouncy Curl Cream (Php 1500) from the Argan Oil Therapy Line for my maintenance. I apply it onto my hair after taking a shower, form curls with my hands, and let it dry. Now that was easy. Also, the cream gives a noticeable bounce to my hair in every application. I noticed the difference when one time I forgot to apply the cream in my haste to leave the house.

I’m currently loving my new look! What do you guys think?

All Covered Up

Meet Donya Phya, the crazy socialite who parties all night and lounges around all day. This was the persona Michelle and I thought of when she first saw my look. I was actually also wearing this really big wide brim hat as well, so Michelle was pretty persistent on calling me donya that day because I looked the part. Haha. Slightly oversized sunnies, a long flowy dress, a ridiculously big hat, that was my donya look.

I was feeling particularly bloated that day so I really wanted to cover everything up. That was what led me to wear this black and white chiffon kimono. To match the kimono, I decided to wear my black Yamamay bikini with it.

I actually love the material of the kimono as it was light, provided just the right coverage without adding more warmth. It was already scorching hot in Boracay, so I don’t want that at all.

I just love how blue everything in my background looks in this photo. Ahh, beautiful.

Don’t forget to hype this on Lookbook!

Make Me Blush Nail Spa and Beauty Lounge (Review)

It was one of those days, I just needed some pampering. I was in the middle of my review classes, and the pressure and stress of my upcoming board exam just set in. When Hana asked me if I wanted to go with her to a nail spa, I said yes without any hesitation, that’s how badly I needed it.

She brought me to Make Me Blush Spa, a newly opened little beauty lounge on Hemady Square along E. Rodriguez Ave.

I fell in love with the interiors immediately. Usually spas stick to a certain color, lavender, blue or green, but this one was colorful, much to my delight. It was a healthy mix of pastel plains and bright contrasting accents, with hints of prints here and there.

I especially liked these bird cage lamps which was the main source of light for the spa. They’re really cute and dainty, giving me an idea for my future home.

Here are the lovely colors I was telling you about! Not only are they pleasing to look at, they are also extremely comfortable.

While waiting for our turn, Hana and I were treated to a cup of tea. The tea set was just so adorable, it took a lot of restraint not to take these home. HAHA. We went on a Sunday, and for a place that has just been operational for three months? They had a long queue. They were already fully booked until closing, I wonder how they were able to squeeze us in. This emerging following, was just a clue to what great service Make Me Blush has to offer.

They offer tea and magazines to browse for all their customers, have free WiFi (now doesn’t everyone want that?), and have a lot of power outlets for guests’ use. How thoughtful, yes?

The owner, Alyssa Apostol, is also a make up artist, and she set up a small corner especially for Hair and Make up appointments. It a one stop shop of sorts really, with services of your usual nail spa, plus a range of massages, as well as waxing services, let’s not forget hair and makeup services too. Alyssa is very hands on with her brainchild, and personally attends to her guests’ needs even.

On the other side of the room are these equally adorable Victorian style pastel cushioned chairs, which I got to sit comfortably in. I really can’t tell you enough how much I adore the whole interior of this place, I love it.

Here’s Hana, happily soaking her feet for her foot spa. I love how everything is truly in theme, even the tub are in pastel colors! Ahh. love. Hana and I both got the Love Me or Leave Me package which includes a manicure, pedicure and a foot spa.

My nail technician took her time in my foot spa, the smell of the scrub was great, a mix of lavender and mint I think, and kept asking me things to ensure that I her services were to my liking. The foot spa was so relaxing, I almost dozed off.

My pedicure took a really long time, she scrutinized every cell in my toes I think. She was very very meticulous, which I liked, because you don’t get that a lot in nail spas. Most technicians just do it to get the job done. My pedicure though, felt like a labor of love. I’m not exaggerating, watching her do it was like watching a scientist in the micro lab, examining every single detail in her specimen.

If only I didn’t have another engagement after, I would have stayed longer. Since ate took a really long time with my pedicure and foot spa, I had little time for my manicure. I had only enough time to have for my fingernails cleaned. She did a good job though, it was probably the neatest my fingernails have looked for the longest time, no dead skin cell was left unturned.

Tada! My half done pedicure. I was in such a rush that I wasn’t able to properly take a photo of my pedicure right after. They have a variety of nail polish selections, using good brands like Essie and China Glaze. They also have a gel polish service if you’re into gel nails, so that’s another point for the variety they have in their services.

Love Me Do (1 hour Full Body Massage Php 380)

Their rates are very reasonable considering the quality of service and pleasant disposition of the staff, I really felt at home while I was there.

Here’s a photo of my pedicure a full week after the service. See? Intact and no chipping, even after all the craziness in Boracay the weekend after, my nails stayed perfect.

All in all, I had a great time in Make Me Blush, and I might have just found my new favorite nail spa. The comfortable plush chairs, the visual party of the interiors, the well mannered staff, and the good quality of services, Make Me Blush is definitely a rising star in the business. I’m definitely coming back for another pamper session, a massage perhaps?
